About me
Hi there!
My name is Jess Barac and I am a musculoskeletal physiotherapist all the way from Australia! I moved to Edinburgh in 2019 and have continued to find new things I love about this beautiful city ever since.
Background
I am passionate about treating the whole person, not just the condition or injury. I have extensive experience working with runners, those with spinal injuries, hypermobility and chronic pain sufferers. My background in manual therapy includes deep tissue massage and trigger point therapy, joint mobilisation and manipulation, dry needling and counterstain (osteopathic technique for releasing muscle tension). I have strong skills in diagnosis, exercise prescription and reformer based Pilates to help you become the strongest, most resilient version of yourself.
Experience
I completed my undergraduate Bachelor of Health Sciences (Principles of Physiotherapy) degree in my hometown of Adelaide Australia in 2015. I then completed my Masters of Physiotherapy at Flinders University in 2017.
I worked in private practice in Adelaide until August 2019, when I moved to Edinburgh to live and work. I have worked in a couple of private clinics during my time in Scotland, and have developed a strong professional network and a loyal client base. With six years of experience under my belt I am confident in my ability to help any client that I meet, or refer them onwards if they require help that is outside of my scope of practice as a physiotherapist. I am always learning and keeping up to date with the latest research, and I am a registered member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and Health Care and Professionals Council. My specialty areas are treating spinal injuries and working with endurance runners.
I believe in preventative care - physiotherapy shouldn’t just be about treating injuries, but about optimising your health and wellbeing. I will provide you with all the information and tools you need to achieve your goals. The more you know and understand about your body, the more in-control you feel. This is the core philosophy behind Resilience Physiotherapy & Pilates.
Personally, I’m a geek!
I personally enjoy reformer Pilates and running to keep my own mind and body healthy. I have been through my own running rehabilitation journey so can appreciate the unique challenges this can present from the client’s perspective.
In my spare time I love to travel, play board games and read fantasy and non-fiction, having also completed a degree in modern history.
